API Celebrates Westover and Wind River
During National School Counseling Week, Feb. 7–11, 2022
National School Counseling Week 2022, “School Counseling: Better Together,” is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and is celebrated this week, February 7–11, 2022. This week we focus our attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems (and Job Corps) and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
API honors our Job Corps Center counselors this week and every week. This has been a challenging year for our Job Corp students and staff due to the pandemic and the impact it has had on center life and student mental health. Through it all, our talented and dedicated counselors have worked diligently with our students to:
• examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents to ensure they are career ready • work in a partnership with parents or guardians to focus on gaining additional support • develop positive ways to enhance their students’ academic, career and social/emotional development • collaborate with academic and CTT instructors to ensure students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic aspirations for themselves.
“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career options and social/emotional skills,” said Jill Cook, American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Executive Director. “School counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”
Thank you, API Counselors and all of you who provide counseling services to our students. You are the ROCK that keeps our students anchored in the fast-moving stream of life. You are important. You are appreciated. You are respected. This week and every week, you are honored!
Finally, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Although normally we think of that as a romantic holiday, I want to share the love with all our staff, who are working so hard, every day for our students. Because we care about you and our students, we urge you to continue to practice our protocols and stay safe. You are appreciated and valued by API. Happy Valentine’s Day!
