Staying Positive and Purposeful
I hope this message finds you well. Since late May, we have been navigating a period of uncertainty while we wait for background checks to be completed and prepare to welcome new students. During times like these, it’s important to stay focused, positive, and connected to our purpose.
The Wellhub Editorial Team offers excellent strategies to help us remain resilient, and I’ve adapted them for our Job Corps family. Check them out: https://wellhub.com/en-us/blog/authors/wellhub-editorial-team/
Recognize and Redirect Negative Thinking:
Stress can sometimes lead to unproductive thought patterns like overthinking or assuming the worst in others. These habits can drain joy from our workplace and make it harder for students to feel welcomed and supported.
To shift toward a more positive mindset, try to:
• See things from your colleagues’ and students’ perspectives,
• Offer support and encouragement,
• Extend grace when challenges arise.
A culture of empathy and understanding helps our students—and our team—thrive.
Prioritize Your Well-Being:
The Wellhub Editorial Team also suggests that we prioritize our well-being. Our physical, mental, and emotional health directly affects how we show up each day. Small actions can make a big difference:
• Keep your workspace clean and comfortable.
• Take care of financial responsibilities to reduce stress.
• Stay active, eat well, and seek spiritual or intellectual support when needed.
By caring for ourselves, we create the energy needed to care for our students.
Build and Rely on Your Support Network:
When times get tough, lean on trusted colleagues, friends, and mentors who can provide guidance and encouragement. Remember that our leadership team—Mr. Odom, Ms. Hansen, and Mr. Markham—are committed to open and transparent communication about our future.
You can also lift others by:
• Sending a quick note to someone who needs encouragement,
• Sharing a small token of appreciation,
• Making someone laugh, or
• Bring a favorite dish to share.
Positivity is contagious—and it starts with simple gestures.
Stay Focused on Our Larger Mission:
When daily challenges feel heavy, remember why we’re here: to help students change their lives, start meaningful careers, and build brighter futures. Our work matters deeply—to our students, their families, and the community.
Looking Ahead:
I encourage you to practice at least one of these strategies in the weeks ahead. Together, we will continue to serve our current students while preparing to welcome new ones with warmth and confidence.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment. I am proud of the work you do and the difference you make every day.
Here's to a strong and positive September!
