CEO's Monthly Message (July 2022)

Happy July 4th!!

The Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the United States only since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day goes back to the 18th century. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later, delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president. During the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), Jefferson served in the Virginia legislature and the Continental Congress and was governor of Virginia. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with fireworks, parades, concerts, family gatherings, and barbecues. July 4th always reminds me of the independence we help our students develop. We provide them the life skills, career skills, and employment opportunities to succeed and reach their goals and dreams. In fact, helping our students gain independence is so important that it is one of the Career Success Standards; Independent Living - the student will leave Job Corps capable of finding, managing, and using the resources needed to maintain employment, satisfy physical and emotional needs, and lead a productive life as an independent adult. As a nation, we cherish and celebrate independence; and in Job Corps, we celebrate the independence we help our students achieve!

The Fourth of July 2022 is on Monday, July 4 2022, and is an API holiday.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Dr. Wild
