Kayla Leicester
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

I always admire the way Kayla approaches other people, especially students. She has a no-nonsense demeanor, but she also approaches them with compassion, understanding, and a mind toward solutions.
Support Service
Jerri Prejean and Tawnya Doty
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Jerri loves her job and takes it seriously. The adult education department at our local community college even called her for advice regarding the DRC platform, and just as expected, Jerri knew just how to fix their issue. Our students are in good hands when it comes to accommodation plans and TABE testing. Thank you, Jerri, for contributing to our culture in this building.

Tawnya’s hard work and dedication is apparent. The trials and tribulations with Thanksgiving and Winter Break travel were indescribable. Tawnya’s tenacity and drive scheduling flights and buses, canceling flights and buses, flights being canceled themselves was a whirlwind. But she never gave up- even those 27 phone calls on a weekend- which happened frequently. Her hard work is appreciated by all
Safety Staff
Chris Hall
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Chris is consistently cheerful, positive, and conscientious when doing his job. Chris has risen to the call numerous times when coverage was short and is always willing to help staff and students. I have had several staff comment on Chris’s welcoming nature in the mornings and his professionalism in the way he executes his duties. All-in-all, Chris is a credit to our department, a valued member of our staff and an asset to the center. I appreciate his efforts and feel lucky to have him on board.
Social Development
Tyrel Whitman
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Tyrel is always willing to help with training new staff as well as being a support person for any staff. Tyrel does not mind going the extra mile and always supports staff and students along the way.

I feel as though he embodies the norms of API and is a leader here at Wind River!
Counselor/CPP
Julee Nicol
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Julee has continually gone above and beyond to assist each and every department on center during this truly challenging time when COVID has taken its toll on every department!
Julee has volunteered to cover residential shift, day shifts, swing shifts and overnight shifts! She taught CPP / MyPace while there was a shortage of CPP Instructors and has learned how to teach every module. When she sees a need to be filled, without hesitation, she offers help. She does this all while maintaining her caseload of students as a Career Development Coach! She also makes sure that every student feels welcomed and safe upon arrival to Wind River.
CTT Instructor
Karla (Denise) Solomon
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Denise has proven to be an exceptionally proactive instructor. She was instrumental with the partnership with MedCerts, helping to write the initial proposal and ensuring all parties involved were able to meet and discuss strategies, barriers, and potential successes. Denise supports her students in whichever career path they choose, providing a solid foundation of Anatomy, Medical Terminology, Physiology, and other “foundations” for their success. Denise has recently taken steps to assist her first MedCerts (almost) graduate to take his Medical Assistant Certification Exam through the National Healthcare Association platform, providing tech support and volunteering her time to guide her student through the testing process.
Academic Instructor
Savanna Herrera
Program Year 2021-2022 Second Quarter Winner!

Savanna has always been wonderful, but it has been a pleasure to witness her professional growth since she started with us in March of 2022, right at the beginning of this new pandemic era. Through all the uncertainty and change, Savanna has gracefully rolled with the punches and maintained her sense of humor. She plans engaging lessons for her students whether online or in the classroom, and she takes her enthusiasm past her regular schedule in order to provide extracurricular activities like Book Club and to compete with students over the pool table in the Rec. Center. Our students are better because of her.
Academic Instructor
Stephanie Hernandez
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

I nominate Stephanie Hernandez for academic instructor of the quarter.
I often find myself using the word “relentless” when it comes to Stephanie, and I use it in the very best way because when it comes to student success, she never gives up. She always knows where her students are their course of study, and she knows exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are. While she is unwavering in her facilitation of student progress, she is also endlessly kind and compassionate. Her students know how deeply they are cared for in her classroom. Just like she does for students, Stephanie steps up always for our staff and our center. She is constantly looking for ways to improve and ways to contribute. Our students and the academic team are so lucky to know Stephanie.
Career Technical Training Instructor
Dave Peschio
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

I would like to nominate David Peschio for the CTT Instructor of the Quarter. Mr. Peschio is a steady and strong force in his student’s career pathways, from day one onward. His thoroughness in instruction, his attention to his students employability needs, his compassion and support during their struggles and his ability to realign and redirect their behavior have made a tremendous impact on his student’s lives and careers. Mr. Peschio doesn’t just stop communicating with his students once they have graduated either. He remains in contact with his graduates, sometimes for years after graduation, and continues to celebrate their successes as they navigate the world of work. As evidenced by his “Wall of Fame” of photographs from graduates, his students remain influenced by him in their daily lives.
Counselor
Heather Britain
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

I would like to nominate Heather Britain. Heather has stepped up so many times and embodies a ‘Students First’ attitude.
In just one instance, she was concerned about students being able to complete Hospitality when the instructor left as she knew finding a replacement would not be an easy task. So on her own, she contacted CWC and made arrangements to become a testing proctor and obtained the program information for the students remaining in the program. She then created a study notebook/guide for the students’ final examinations. Thanks to her efforts all but one of those students have now graduated and she has been instrumental in making arrangements for that final student to complete.
Heather guides our students through the FAFSA process, and works closely with CWC on making sure students get every opportunity available to them. She works with students and their families to navigate this difficult process. Heather cares deeply for her students and is very conscientious about her role in guiding them along their career pathway.
CPP / VE Staff
Jordan Rasmussen
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!
Job Placement Champion
Scott Belschner
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

I would like to nominate Scott Belschner as the APPY Career Technical Training Instructor of the Quarter for WRJC. Scott is a great and personable instructor, but more than that, he exemplifies the “Job One Day One” philosophy in his program. His students learn early on what they should expect if they want a good job… it might mean relocating, an apprenticeship absolutely requires mobility, etc. He is sensitive to a students needs, but keeps the focus on preparing them for a real career. He best showed his commitment to students when he helped Lisaira DeLuna win her job as a Diesel Tech with FedEx Freight, coaching her every step of the way, getting her to Denver for the interview and working with post-interview follow up needs. There was a lot of attention to the details. I’m pretty certain she would not have been placed with FXF without his focused support.
Social Development Staff

Safety Staff
Ryley Foos
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!
Support Service Staff
Jennifer Foos
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

I nominate Jennifer Foos for the support service staff of the quarter.
We can always count on Jennifer to take a positive approach to adversity, which, as we’ve learned during these trying times, is an invaluable trait. She does not complain, does not gossip, and never turns down an opportunity to help. Jennifer is an uplifting and motivating presence on center, and you’ll never see her slacking. Jennifer has been known to show up in places when an extra set of hands is needed, even when it’s not necessarily in her job description, like the gym during intake days or the cafeteria when someone is absent for their meal monitor duty. She takes her job seriously and understands the impact she has on student and center success. Students and staff trust her to act with efficiency, integrity, and a great sense of humor. Our center is better with her on our team.

Respect for Others Award
Austin Spackman
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

Austin hit the ground running when he started in June. He works well with all departments and is always respectful when dealing with others. He is very responsive when asked for help and keeps people informed of the status of any issues. He is very knowledgeable on all programs here on center and goes all over center to show staff what they need to do when they are having issues. Other than when Austin is in another area on center to solve an issue, he is always available to staff and students.
Recruitment Staff
Tawnya Doty
Program Year 2021-2022 First Quarter Winner!

Tawnya is always available to both staff and students regardless of the time of day. She gets called at all hours of the day and on weekends by students regarding their transportation needs. She know her area inside and out and keeps up well on all her duties. She works well with all departments. Tawnya is welcoming and always is a friendly face. She is always willing to stop what she is doing to help with any concern.
